Custom Kitchen Cabinet Design & Build in Huntsville, AL

Huntsville Quality Kitchen Cabinets designs and builds fully custom kitchen cabinets in Huntsville, AL — every dimension measured to your space, every material chosen by you, every cabinet built in our local shop and installed by our own crew.

Custom Kitchen Cabinets Built to Your Exact Space

There's a real difference between "custom" cabinets from a big-box store and cabinets that are actually built from scratch for your kitchen. We build from scratch. That means we start with your wall dimensions — not a catalog — and design every run of cabinets to fit without filler strips, forced cutoffs, or awkward gaps.

North Alabama homes vary a lot. Older Huntsville bungalows have walls that aren't square. New construction in Madison often has deeper islands and taller ceiling heights. Hampton Cove custom homes want a specific look that matches their architecture. Stock cabinets don't account for any of that. We do.

Our design process starts with a full on-site measure. We document every wall angle, ceiling height, window placement, and appliance cutout before a single design line gets drawn. You see the complete layout — in detail — before we cut one piece of wood.

Exact Fit

Built to your actual wall and ceiling dimensions. No filler strips hiding gaps, no off-shelf compromises that look like an afterthought.

Your Style

Shaker, raised panel, slab-front, inset — any door style, any finish, any wood. You choose everything. We build it.

Functional Layout

We design around how you actually cook. Where the range sits, how you reach the corner, what goes in the deep drawer versus the shelf.

Door Styles, Wood Species, and Finish Options

Every cabinet we build starts with three core decisions: door style, wood species, and finish. Getting these right is what separates a kitchen that looks good in photos from one you're still happy with ten years later.

Door Styles We Build

  • Shaker — recessed center panel, clean rails and stiles. Works in any kitchen style, from farmhouse to contemporary.
  • Raised Panel — traditional center panel with decorative profile. Built from cherry, walnut, or painted maple for formal kitchens.
  • Slab / Flat Front — no ornamentation, full door face. Works best with natural wood grain or high-gloss painted finishes.
  • Inset — doors and drawers sit flush inside the face frame. Furniture-quality look that requires precise fitting.
  • Beadboard Panel — vertical groove detail in the center panel. Adds texture and character to cottage and transitional kitchens.

Wood Species We Work With

  • Hard Maple — fine, uniform grain that paints beautifully. The most popular choice for white and light-painted kitchens in North Alabama.
  • Red and White Oak — strong, affordable, with pronounced grain. Stains well in warm tones. A classic for Huntsville traditional kitchens.
  • Cherry — smooth grain that darkens and deepens in color over time. Rich, warm tone for formal or transitional designs.
  • Black Walnut — dark, dramatic grain. Works best in modern or high-contrast two-tone kitchens.
  • Hickory — wide grain variation, rustic character. Popular in Harvest and rural North Alabama homes with a farmhouse feel.

A Note on Humidity and North Alabama Hardwoods

Huntsville's humidity — especially in summer — can be hard on solid wood cabinets if they're not built right. We kiln-dry all our lumber to 6–8% moisture content before milling, use full plywood boxes (not particleboard), and apply moisture-cured finishes on surfaces near sinks and dishwashers. These aren't upgrades — they're how we build everything. Cabinets that weren't built with North Alabama weather in mind will start showing movement and finish failure within a few years.

Our Custom Cabinet Design Process

Every kitchen is different — so every project starts from scratch. We come to your space, take precise measurements of every wall and ceiling, and build the design around what's actually there.

You'll see a complete layout — every cabinet, every dimension — before we cut a single board. No surprises at installation, no "we'll figure that out when we get there."

Built-In Storage Features That Actually Help

Smart storage isn't a checkbox on our list — it's part of the design conversation from day one. Here's what we build into most kitchens.

Pull-Out Base Drawers

Replaces the reach-in lower cabinet shelf. Every inch of depth becomes usable storage you can actually see and grab.

Blind Corner Pull-Outs

Eliminates dead corner storage with a mechanism that brings the back of the cabinet forward when you open it.

Spice Pull-Outs

Narrow vertical drawers beside the range. Sized for standard spice jars so nothing gets lost in the back of a cabinet.

Deep Pot Drawers

Three-stack drawers in 21" or 24" depth for pots, pans, and Dutch ovens. Heavier items stay at a reachable height.

Trash & Recycling Pullouts

Concealed bins on a door-mounted mechanism. Full-extension slides so you never have to dig for the back bin.

Appliance Garages

Countertop-height cabinets with a tambour or lift-up door that keep the mixer, toaster, and coffee maker off the counter but accessible.

Tray Dividers

Vertical slots in a tall cabinet or upper section for cutting boards, baking sheets, and serving trays — standing upright, easy to grab.

Hidden Charging Drawer

A shallow drawer with a built-in USB/outlet strip. Keeps phones and tablets off the counter and out of the way.

Waste Bin Tilt-Out

A narrow door panel below the sink that opens to reveal a small bin — keeps the space clean without a full pullout cabinet.

Common Questions About Custom Kitchen Cabinets

How long does a custom kitchen cabinet project take?
From the first measurement visit to installation day, most kitchen projects run 8–12 weeks. The design and approval phase takes 1–2 weeks. Production runs 4–6 weeks in our shop. Installation is typically 2–4 days depending on kitchen size. We'll give you a firm project schedule at contract signing.
What's the difference between custom, semi-custom, and stock cabinets?
Stock cabinets come in fixed sizes — typically 3" increments — and you work around them. Semi-custom gives you more style and finish options but still uses standard dimensions. Custom means we build every cabinet to your exact measurements, with any door style, any wood, any configuration you need. No fillers, no compromises.
Do you handle the countertops too?
We focus on the cabinetry and can coordinate with countertop fabricators we work with regularly. We'll make sure your cabinet heights, depths, and cutouts are spec'd correctly for whatever countertop material you choose — granite, quartz, butcher block, or solid surface.
Can you work with an existing kitchen layout, or do we have to start from scratch?
We can work either way. Some clients want a full redesign with new wall layouts, island additions, and new appliance positions. Others want to keep the same footprint but get rid of builder-grade cabinets. We do both — the design process is the same either way.
Do you serve areas outside Huntsville?
Yes. We regularly work in Madison, Harvest, Meridianville, Athens, Hampton Cove, and Decatur. If you're in North Alabama and within reasonable distance of Huntsville, call us at 256-202-6580 and we'll confirm.
