Under-Cabinet Lighting Integration in Huntsville, AL

Huntsville Quality Kitchen Cabinets integrates under-cabinet lighting into new kitchen builds and existing cabinetry in Huntsville, AL — hardwired, hidden, and built to look like it was always part of the kitchen.

Under-Cabinet Lighting — More Than a Feature

Under-cabinet lighting does two things: it improves how the kitchen functions and it changes how the kitchen looks at night. Both matter.

On the functional side: overhead kitchen lights cast shadows directly onto the countertop where you're cutting, reading a recipe, or assembling a meal. Under-cabinet task lighting eliminates those shadows by directing light at the work surface from below the cabinets, where it needs to be. Most people who've never had it don't realize how much they've been working in partial shadow until they install it.

On the aesthetic side: good under-cabinet lighting creates a layered light effect that makes the kitchen look like it was designed by someone who cares about lighting. It illuminates the backsplash, creates warmth on the countertops, and gives the kitchen a finished, high-end quality that overhead lighting alone can't achieve.

Hardwired vs. Plug-In

Plug-in puck lights and tape lights look fine in photos. In person, the cords and plugs are visible and the installation always looks improvised. Hardwired fixtures are connected directly to a junction box and switch, with no visible cords. We plan hardwired runs as part of new cabinet installations and can retrofit into existing cabinets as part of a remodel.

LED Strip Lighting

Continuous LED tape mounted in an aluminum channel along the underside of the cabinet. Even, gapless light across the full countertop run. The aluminum channel diffuses the light so you don't see individual LED points — just a clean uniform glow. Available in warm white (2700K–3000K), neutral white (3500K), and cool white (4000K+).

LED Puck Lights

Individual round fixtures spaced along the cabinet underside — typically 8–12 inches apart. Work better for targeted task zones than for continuous counter illumination. Can create hotspot/dark-spot variation between fixtures. Best suited for accent lighting under glass display cabinets.

Color Temperature Selection

Color temperature affects how the whole kitchen looks and feels. 2700K matches incandescent light and pairs well with warm wood tones. 3000K is a popular middle ground. 4000K reads as 'daylight' and suits modern kitchens with cool-toned finishes. We'll show you samples in your kitchen before we commit to a specification.

How We Integrate Lighting into Cabinet Builds

For new cabinet installations, we build lighting integration into the design from the start. Electrical planning happens before the first cabinet goes up — not as an afterthought after installation.

For existing kitchens, we assess the feasibility of hardwired installation and can coordinate the electrical work. In most cases, a clean hardwired run is possible without major disruption.

1

Electrical Planning

We coordinate with your electrician to ensure properly located junction boxes above the cabinets before installation. This is done during the rough-in phase — not after.

2

Channel Routing

We route a shallow channel in the underside of the cabinet box to recess the aluminum LED channel and wire run. This keeps the fixture flush with the cabinet face and hides all wiring.

3

Fixture Mounting

LED channels are mounted and secured in the routed channel. End caps and diffuser covers are installed. Wiring is run through the cabinet interior and connected at the junction box above.

4

Switch Integration

Lighting is tied to a dedicated switch — often a dimmer — typically located at the entry to the kitchen or adjacent to the primary prep zone. Dimming allows adjustment from task brightness to ambient evening lighting.

5

Testing and Color Check

We power up and test every fixture before completion, checking for consistent color temperature and even illumination across the full countertop run.

6

Retrofit Installation

For existing cabinets without lighting, we assess the feasibility of hardwired installation and can coordinate the electrical work. In cases where hardwiring isn't practical, we specify the best plug-in options with concealed cord routing.

Dimming, Smart Controls, and Advanced Options

For clients building or remodeling high-end kitchens in Huntsville, Madison, or Hampton Cove, we can specify and integrate more advanced lighting control systems.

0–10V Dimming

Standard dimmer protocol for LED fixtures. Compatible with most dedicated LED dimmer switches. Allows full range from 0% to 100% brightness without flicker. Required for hospitality and commercial applications.

Lutron Caseta / RadioRA Integration

For kitchens being integrated into a broader Lutron lighting control system, under-cabinet lighting can be included in scenes, schedules, and voice control. Requires compatible LED drivers.

Warm-Dim Technology

LED fixtures that shift to a warmer color temperature as they dim — mimicking the behavior of incandescent bulbs. Creates a more natural lighting experience at lower brightness levels.

Motion-Activated Lighting

Under-cabinet lights triggered by motion sensors — useful for late-night kitchen navigation without waking up the rest of the household. Separate from the main task lighting circuit.
